We are learning the OU/OW sound this week in first grade. Jodi Southard has the most amazing product on TPT and her blog for teaching this sound. The teacher wears a band-aid all week and the students have to read ou/ow word clues to try and guess how the teacher got an owie. I plan to give each child a band-aid with ou/ow written on it to wear on Friday if they can tell me the sound of these vowel digraphs. I also found some great ou/ow stations on http://www.wordway.us.com/Diphthongs/Toonsout.pdf. I love this website for extra phonics practice.
This is another great free product I found on TPT to go with the Ouch! clue station. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/ou-and-ow-Game-1085334
I'm so excited to go back after spring break and teach this unit. I know each of my students will remember the ow/ou digraph sound after all these fun activities.
