I have looked for years for a great online site that offers reading comprehension and vocabulary practice for first grade students. I have finally found the perfect site. AdaptedMind offers math and reading practice for grades 1st-6th. The reading passages are perfect for low or advanced readers. They have sample passages and a free 30 day trial. The paid membership is only $9.99 a month for 5 children. I plan to become a member for my own children and to use it some in my classroom as well. Check out this wonderful site it'shttp://www.adaptedmind.com/index.html

Our classroom elf has been a huge hit. I wish I could post pictures of the joy in my students' eyes. We named him Juan (one of my students chose his own name and it's the one we drew from the hat). They have wanted to feed him tamales too. lol! Gotta love children from Texas. We are writing in our journals about our elf each day. I love seeing the magic of believing in Christmas come alive in their writing. I took some photos of their journal entries. I'm using the journal I listed in a previous blog that I downloaded from tpt. I saw a great game idea on First Grade Parade. I decided to make my own smart board version. You can download it for free with the link below. It's sight words with our elf's picture behind some of the word cards. Students read the word cards and touch the card to see if they get to find our elf hiding behind their word. This game has been so much fun and such a big hit I'm going to make more games like this with Santa and the Grinch this weekend. So much Christmas fun and so little time before Christmas break. What fun activities you are using in your classroom or home for the holidays? Please leave a comment with fun ideas. :)
